About Doi Luang National Park

Doi Luang National Park is located in northern Thailand, spanning the provinces of Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, and Lampang. The park covers a rugged mountainous region, crowned by Doi Luang peak, which reaches an elevation of 1,694 meters (5,560 feet), making it one of the tallest mountains in the Phi Pan Nam Range. The landscape includes thick evergreen and deciduous forests, cascading waterfalls, and fertile valleys. This area is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including species such as barking deer, gibbons, Phayre’s leaf monkeys, and numerous bird species, attracting wildlife watchers and photographers.

The park’s cooler climate compared to much of Thailand makes it a popular destination from November to February. Visitors come to trek its forested trails, explore limestone caves, and visit natural attractions like the Mae Kachan Waterfall. Some trails lead to panoramic viewpoints where hikers can see sweeping views of the northern highlands. The park offers opportunities for camping, bird viewing, and experiencing rural hill tribe cultures in nearby villages. Doi Luang National Park appeals to travelers seeking both adventure and tranquility in a protected natural setting, away from more crowded tourist spots.

Established in 1990, the park is managed to preserve its ecological integrity while promoting sustainable tourism. Its combination of diverse ecosystems, spectacular scenery, and outdoor activities makes it an important destination for nature enthusiasts visiting northern Thailand.
